Questions to Ask Yourself When Choosing a Daycare Center Location

Questions to Ask Yourself When Choosing a Daycare Center LocationThere are many questions that you will have when it comes to consider a daycare center for your child, especially if it is your first child. While a lot of your questions will surround the qualifications of the daycare center, such as first aid training, certifications and so on (which is very, very important), you will also want to consider location.

Choosing a daycare that fits into your schedule and commute can save you loads of time in the long run. While you certainly won't want to sacrifice quality for location, it is an important factor. Here are a few things to consider when thinking about the location choice for your child's daycare.

Is one parents responsible for a majority of the drop offs?

If one parent is going to be responsible for drop offs and pickups more than the other, they should have a larger say in where the daycare is. Lots of couples (who are together or split up) often have a routine that puts one parent in the driver's seat for this daily or semi-daily drive. If you two are unsure who is going to be in charge of this most often, you'll want to figure that out, as each of your commutes can dictate the location choice.

How long is your commute?

Another thing to consider is the overall commute time. If you plan on dropping the child off on your way to work you'll want to think about if you should have a daycare center closer to home or closer to work. Each has its ups and downs, but a long commute can be tough on a child and a parent, especially if dealing with the stresses of traffic, which may make it more appealing to have a location closer to home.

Do you want to be very close to your child in case of emergency?

The obvious answer is yes, but that isn't always an easy feat. A daycare center that is easy to get to is always a smart choice, as there may be a time you need to race to pick your child up if they're experiencing a sickness or some other emergency, or simply just need a parent for emotional support.

Do you have other time or schedule considerations?

You may also need to take in other people's schedules in your family, such as an older child who may need to get to school at a different time.
