Teach Your Child these 4 Tips to Prevent Cold and Flu Transmission

Teach Your Child these 4 Tips to Prevent Cold and Flu TransmissionIt's well-known that kids have a tendency to pass along germs, but that doesn't mean such transmission needs to go unchecked. As young ones learn numbers and the alphabet, they can also be taught some basic steps to take to help prevent illnesses from developing. And, to be sure, these tips are ones that a lot of adults could be better at following too!

Especially if your child is about to start preschool, it'll be better for everyone if they are mindful of how to help keep themselves and their classmates healthy. Here's a look at four ways for your child to prevent the spread of germs.

Always Cover Coughs & Sneezes

It's better to blow into the crease of one's elbow rather than directly on the hands. By keeping the mucous off the hands, there will be a reduced risk of the germs being subsequently passed along.

Thoroughly Wash Hands

Children should know to wash their hands in a number of different situations, such as: before eating, after going to the bathroom, after playing outside, and after coughing or sneezing into their hands. They'll want to scrub with soap & warm water for at least twenty seconds, while also making sure they get under their nails.

Lots of Deep Sleep

While it might make us adults jealous, toddlers should get at least ten hours of sleep per night, as well as a nap of two to three hours. This will help to boost their immune system and keep them more resistant to developing a cold.

Don't Share Utensils or Drinks

While it certainly is adorable when kids want to share their food and drinks, you'll want to make sure that they do so in ways that don't raise the risk of germ transmission. This holds true even when no one seems ill.

Before starting your child in preschool, you'll want to make sure they know how to keep themselves and others as healthy as possible. If you're interested in enrolling your child in preschool, be sure to get in touch with a reputable program. For preschool in Richmond, VA, contact Country Day Care (804) 282-8502.
